JPRD offering tennis, Tae Kwon Do and more

JPRD logoThe Jefferson park and recreation department is taking registrations for several upcoming programs as follows:

Tennis clinic: Children ages 5-10 can learn fundamental tennis skills from experienced instructor Andrea Lazzaro.

Coach Lazzaro is a level 5.0 tennis player. He was previously sponsored by Darling Tennis Center and trained with Stan Breland, Stanislas Warwranka and Richard Walker. He was in the top 200 in the West Mountain Conference, top 50 in Nevada, and top 50 in California.

The tennis clinic will meet Mondays Dec. 22 through Jan. 26, from 5 to 6 pm at the Greene County Community Center. JPRD will supply all equipment. Registration deadline is Dec. 18. For a registration form, click here: JPRD winter tennis clinic

Tot Shots: Kindergarten boys and girls will have fun playing games while learning the fundamentals of basketball. Tot Shots will meet Saturdays Jan. 3, Jan. 10 and Jan. 17 from 10:15 to 11 am at Greene County elementary in Jefferson. Registration deadline is Dec. 26. Itty Bitty New Year will be a New Year’s celebration for children ages 4-6. Young party-goers will make crafts, play games, and count down to 2015 at noon. Tae Kwon Do: After a short session in November, JPRD is ready to offer Tae Kwon Do for ages 4 and older at the Community Center. Tae Kwon Do (TKD) is an opportunity for participants to learn discipline, respect, confidence and the basic self-defense principles of martial arts.

Three divisions of TKD will be offered—Kinder for ages 4-7 years, junior for ages 8-16 years, and an adult division for participants 17 years and older. Classes will meet on Sundays from Jan. 4 through March 22. The kinder group will meet from 2 to 2:45 pm. The junior class will follow from 3 to 4 pm and the adult group will end the day from 4:15 to 5:15 pm.

Classes are led by Levi Horsley, a first degree black in TKD; a black in Bando Ryu Karate and an assistant instructor for Muy Thai and Jeet Kune Do.
